KQXX Brownsville TX 1700 kHz QSL

KQXX Brownsville TX was heard on 1700 kHz via the FRG7 and a beverage antenna during a dxpedition to Vaalkloof in the Karoo on the 29th September 2003.

IT Manager and Engineering Assistant John Munoz kindly verified my reception report with a letter and included a station sticker (pictured above). John indicated that they were running 500 kw at night when I heard the station.

On February 26 2004, the station changed call sign to KVNS which has been heard here on quite a few occasions since.

Yours truly with wife Sandy and daughter Nicole (photograph taken in 2004 during a holiday dxpedition with dxer Vince Stevens who discovered this great location).

Vaalkloof is a nature reserve in the Karoo desert, approximately 180 km north of Cape Town. A quiet location with no electricity - car batteries and parrifin lamps were the order of the day!
