6TZ Busselton WA 756 kHz QSL

The 2kw signal from 6TZ Busselton WA was heard in Fish Hoek via the FRG7 in October 2004.

The 1 842 metre Busselton Jetty is regarded as the longest wooden structure in the southern hemisphere (photographs : Wikimedia Commons).

5PA Naracoorte SA 1161 kHz QSL Letter

5PA Naracoorte SA made it through on 1161 kHz kHz via the FRG7 and a 80 metre longwire antenna at Millers Point on the 8th July 2004. 

Regional Program Manager Alan Richardson kindly verified my reception report with a letter and included a few ABC South East stickers (pictured above).

5RN Adelaide SA 729 kHz QSL letter

5RN Adelaide on 729 kHz has made it through to Fish Hoek on numerous occasions. Communications Officer Katreena Doherty kindly verified my reception report with a letter back in July 2004.

Graham from the ABC also verified my reception report regarding an unusual barefoot appearance of 729 5RN Adelaide (including 891 5AN Adelaide) on the 22nd September 2010 via the Sony SRF-M37V with its internal 5cm ferrite loopstick antenna. 

Netherlands Antilles TWR Bonaire 800 kHz QSL

TWR Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles was heard on 800 kHz on the 28th July 2005 via the FRG7 and a beverage antenna during a dxpedition to Seefontein. The station has been heard regularly over the years at various coastal locations with good signal peaks.

Program Host Maggie Fuller kindly replied to my reception report with a friendly letter and included a station sticker with a QSL card.

WSB Atlanta GA 750 kHz QSL

WSB Atlanta GA made it through on 750 kHz kHz via the FRG7 and a beverage antenna during a dxpedition to Seefontein on the 25th July 2005.

Charles Youngs from WSB Radio Operations verified my reception report with a letter and kindly included a cool station t-shirt.

NETHERLANDS Radio London International Trintelhaven 1395 kHz QSL

Radio London International was heard for the first time (A South African First) on 1395 kHz via the FRG7 and a beverage antenna during a dxpedition to Seefontein on the 27th July 2005. 

I received a verification letter including a cool postcard QSL of the M.V. Yeoman Rose (issued for the first broadcast during the summer of 1997) in response to my reception report.

U.K. Sunrise Radio London 1458 kHz QSL

Sunrise Radio London was heard on 1458 kHz via the FRG7 during June 2004. Chairman PA Rekha Kaul kindly acknowledged my reception report with a brief letter and car sticker (pictured above).

Time out at Vaalkloof in the Karoo with Sandy - alongside fellow dxer Vince Stevens' classic Land Rover. Sunrise Radio was also heard during the 2003 dxpedition to Vaalkloof.

WTNI Biloxi MS 1640 kHz QSL

WTNI Biloxi MS was heard for the first time on 1640 kHz via the FRG7 and a 50 metre longwire antenna during a brief dxpedition to Swartriet on the west coast in November 2003.

April Williams from the parent Mississippi Media Broadcasting Company kindly verified my reception report with an informative letter.

KQXX Brownsville TX 1700 kHz QSL

KQXX Brownsville TX was heard on 1700 kHz via the FRG7 and a beverage antenna during a dxpedition to Vaalkloof in the Karoo on the 29th September 2003. 

IT Manager and Engineering Assistant John Munoz kindly verified my reception report with a letter and included a station sticker (pictured above). John indicated that they were running 500 watts at night when I heard the station. 

On February 26 2004, the station changed call sign to KVNS which has been heard here on quite a few occasions since.

Vaalkloof is a nature reserve in the Karoo desert, approximately 180 km north of Cape Town. A quiet location with no electricity - car batteries and parrifin lamps were the order of the day!

WTAW College Station TX 1620 kHz QSL

WTAW College Station TX was heard on 1620 kHz with CBS news followed by a phone-in programme and an id during a sports promo at 0355 hours via the FRG7 and a beverage antenna during a dxpedition to Vaalkloof in the Karoo on the 29th September 2003.

WHKT Portsmouth VA 1650 kHz QSL

WHKT Portsmouth VA was heard briefly on 1650 kHz with Radio Disney promos and pop music via the FRG7 and a beverage antenna during a dxpedition to Vaalkloof in the Karoo on the 26th September 2003.

This station sticker was kindly included with the QSL letter received in response to my reception report.

On the 22nd January 2010, Disney took WHKT off the air and sold the station to Hampton Roads area religious broadcaster Chesapeake-Portsmouth Broadcasting on the 25th January 2010. 

WHKT is presently a Conservative Talk Radio station.

Taiwan Family Radio, Kouhu 1557 kHz QSL

Family Radio, Taiwan was heard on 1557 kHz via the FRG7 and a beverage antenna during a dxpedition to Vaalkloof in the Karoo on the 28th September 2003 . The station has been heard regularly at various locations in South Africa with good peaks.

Vietnam Voice Of Vietnam, Hanoi 1242 kHz QSL

The Voice Of Vietnam was heard on 1242 kHz in Fish Hoek on the 11th September 2003 via the FRG7 and 50 metre longwire antenna. The station has been heard fairly regularly over the years with good signal peaks.

U.K. Talksport Droitwich 1053 kHz QSL

Talksport on 1053 khz made it through on the 27th August 2003. I received a verification letter in response to my reception report. The station has been heard on a quite a few occasions since.

The Harbour Light Of The Windwards was heard in Fish Hoek on the 6th July 2003 via the FRG7 and 50 metre longwire antenna. The station has been heard fairly regularly over the years with some surprising signal peaks.

4QN Townsville on 630 kHz made it through to Fish Hoek on the 9th May 1992 via the FRG7 and 50 metre longwire antenna.

3LO Melbourne VIC 774 kHz QSL

3LO Melbourne on 774kHz was heard on the 15th April 1992 via the FRG7 and 50 metre longwire antenna at Fish Hoek.

Assistant Manager G K Glover kindly responded with a verification letter and added :

" ... For the signal to extend right across Australia to South Africa is most unusual. I don't recall ever having had a report from this far away ... "

Papua New Guinea - Radio Enga 2410 kHz QSL and Audio

It was a pleasant surprise to hear Radio Enga, Papua new Guinea on 2410 kHz for the first time during a holiday/dxpedition at the South African coastal location of Cintsa (45 km from East London). 

The 10 kw signal made it through during excellent reception conditions back on the 18th July 1991 via the FRG7 and 50 metre longwire antenna.
